Greek Diaries

Part 1: Xanthic Shades on the Aegan Sea

Xanthic shades droppeth on the Aegan Seas
The pristine blue waters shimmer
Beholding the beauty, makes me weak in my knees
As the rays of fire slowly get dimmer
The farthest to which my eyes can reach
I discern the sun turning into a little round peach
Ships and boats alike, pause for the ravishing sight
For everything else takes a backseat
To witness the borderline of day and night
On the periphery where the sea and sky meet
The islands stop to flaunt, so does the weary traveler's chaunt
Only the eerie stillness of the water starts to haunt
Time rolls by, it’s a quarter to eight
A spectacle in store, worth the wait
On the far edge of the sky, the whiteness of the smiling moon begins to glow
Darkness envelops, heart skips a beat, the sun begins to sink slow
Preparing to cross the celestial rubicon
Words to describe vanish from the lexicon
The horizon tangents to its circumference
One last bursting gleam of red, to the heart's deference
My ball of love, one last time will you peep?
Before you turn in for your good night's sleep

Part 2: Sunset at Oia

Marbled walls of Azure Blue and Milk White
Fashioning the trademark colours of the Greek Cyclades
Orangish tinge strewn afar by the fire ball diminishing bright
As the starry night sets in, the light slowly fades

Touristy human fragments scattered everywhere, scarcely can one avoid
To catch fleeting glimpses thru eyes and lenses
Photographic disappointments rendered null and void,
Only when the sunset ends, do we return to our senses

Part 3: A Tribute to Hospitality

This is but a simple tribute
I will be candid and frank
The hosts in this city of fame and repute
Rhyme by Rhyme to both of you I thank

My dear Charles and Anne
We embarked on our honeymoon
With hardly any plan
For you were our lovely boon

From the very first step we took in Athens
Right from your Airport Pick-up
Though initially of what to do, we had no sense
From then on there was no trace of a hiccup

With your entire family on the first night's dinner
We were made to instantly feel at home
The restaurant you picked was an outright winner
In the days to come, together we would roam

Next day morning you helped book our ferries in a breeze
Taking a massive weight off our mind
All our worries slowly began to cease
It was simply nice of you to be this much kind

You took us to the famed Acropolis
Taking time off your busy day
Though we were complete strangers in this metropolis
We cherished your companionship all the way

You treated us to yet another splendid dinner in Paleo Faleiro
Again and Again you chose to pay
Though we pleaded & insisted, so did Alexa and Fernando
In this matter, you never let us have our say

A long walk next day in the heart of the city
Anne, you wielded the best of your photography skills
Making us smile and laugh all the way thru your humour so witty
Taking us to Plaka and the best of its pleasant thrills

The evening however rocked by Charles
The pasta, a stunning product of his culinary abilities
It was a welcome break from the traffic snarls
A dinner which could be appreciated only by finer sensibilities

Anne and Charles, you both make such an adorable couple
Your hospitality and treatment was amazing you should know
Seeing you both, negativity from life automatically decouple
Words can't express, to you, how much we owe

With a treasure trove of memories we depart from Greece
Leaving behind loads of love and affection
We are at peace and our minds at ease
You played the role of hosts to perfection

Part 4: Breakfast Woes

Pastas and Salads adorn the daily brunch
Difficult to get by sans the meat
Still without complaints we relish and munch
Grateful for what we get to eat

The clinking of glasses, a chorus of cheers
Fizzle out of bottles, guzzle of beers
Miss my staple bowl of rice
But in the company of my wife its still paradise

Part 5: Standalone Sonnet

We came to Greece
To get some peace
Our minds are at ease
As we continue to sail on the seas

We roam like busy bees
Not waiting a second to cease
End of the day, we're on our knees
Finally had enough of this please!

Morning munchings of Feta Cheese
Followed by a bunch of grapes, a bowl of berries
Basking in the cool Spring morning breeze
While in the nights we nearly freeze

We hop island to island on ferries
All along the way, we make memories

Part 6: Queer Quatrain

      The light slowly fades
As the ferry ploughs thru the Cyclades
What an incredible Aegan endeavor
Continuing even in this ungodly hour
